'30-In-30' Challenge Week 8 Update

You know what time it is, right? It's time for that golden experience we enjoy each and every Tuesday here at the "30-In-30" Low-Carb Weight Loss Challenge to find out how we are doing on our weight loss. IT'S WEIGH-IN DAY!!!

While many of us have been losing a lot of weight above our one-pound-a-week challenge, others have seen just a few pounds come off of our bodies. Is this a reason to panic and complain that this plan isn't working? HECK NO! I would dare say the changes in your HABITS are much more important than the changes in your WEIGHT.

Think about the progress you have made so far. Even if the scale ONLY moved a half pound a week for the next year, that's still OVER 25 pounds by this time next year. WOO HOO!!! That's nothing to sneeze at (unless you are allergic to fat loss!).

Our obsession with HAVING to lose weight to feel like we are being successful on a diet plan and then pitching a fit when the scale isn't moving as fast as we want it to is a uniquely Americanized ideal. No wonder our nation is full of millions of people who get so frustrated with their weight they start groups that encourage "fat acceptance."

If I can encourage you with anything today, then let me say this. The fact that you took me up on my "30-In-30" challenge and you are still at it two months later is a testimony in itself that you are serious about your desire for change. You are that much closer to learning that low-carb is not just about a temporary diet to help you lose weight, but that it is a lifelong commitment to your health and well-being for many years to come.

Stay strong in the battle because you've got so many people praying for you and rooting you to success that you can't help but defeat the obesity enemy that is weighing you down right now. In just a matter of months, the load will be lightened and YOU WILL rise victorious over your fat once and for all. I say it often, but DON'T GIVE UP! DON'T! If you do, then you are not just failing yourself, but all those around you who believed in you to make it to the end.

I'm so proud of what all of you have been able to accomplish and wish you continued success on your low-carb lifestyle. THANK YOU to everyone who has posted comments here at this blog. If you have NEVER commented previously, then please take the opportunity today to share some of what's on your mind as it relates to your weight loss. What you will find is a group of people ready to publicly embrace you and show you that you WILL make it!

Of course, my regulars are always welcome to comment as well. I LOVE hearing from you and I try to respond personally to everyone who writes a comment. THANK YOU again for your faithfulness to the mission of this blog to help others as they seek to lose weight the low-carb way.

Okay, it's Week 8 of the challenge now and I bet you are wondering how I did last week, huh? After deciding to try the intermittent fasting idea that Dr. Mike Eades had recently suggested on his blog and then concluding that it definitely wasn't for me after five days, I went back to eating the way I have been since my slight change in menu one month ago.

Here were my weight loss results:

YEP, that's a FOUR AND A HALF POUND WEIGHT LOSS!

Lest you are wondering, most of that weight loss happened AFTER I got off of the intermittent fasting and back on my regular low-carb eating plan. I even skipped my workout on both Saturday AND Sunday because of prior time commitments. But the results are proof that I am going well in the right direction.

You will notice that I have adjusted my weight loss goal to a new one: 199! I've been talking about this for weeks, but decided the time was right to change it since I am doing so well. My old goal of 210 pounds is just nine more pounds away for the next 22 weeks. Um, I think I'll hit that one, eh? LOL!

So, I'm issuing you ANOTHER challenge today. If you, like me, are doing very well with your weight loss, then how about changing your goal weight to something that you will need to strive a little harder for, but still accomplish by the end of February? If your goal was to be 200 pounds, then how about considering 190 or even 180? Hmmm?

When I lost my 180 pounds in 2004, I didn't really have a goal in mind except to get down from the 410 pounds that I was. But as I got closer to my eventual weight of 230, that was the number I kept striving for and reached. Now I'm pushing for 199 and I KNOW I will make it. How about you? Is there a lower goal weight in your future? Tell us about it.

As always, the floor is now open for your comments! :D

Last week was so bad I don't think I ever posted. Weight was up to 178. I have been fluctuating between 170 - 179 for months now. I was on vacation this week so I was just hoping to maintain, but, the scale said 173. I hope my own little IF experiment will help me to recognize true hunger and stop eating out of habit at certain times of the day.

That's the lesson I learned, diamondwife. You keep at it, girl! Weight loss success is well within your grasp. You're already a winner in my book. :D

You are doing just GREAT Jimmy!!! I wish I could drop that many pounds in a week, but I think I'll just up my ante and drink more water and exercise more and hope for the best. I did finally reach 200 and I want you to go to my blog cause I posted a very HAPPY photo of myself today!!! Thanks so much to you and all of these wonderful bloggers - Think Success!!!!! Mo

You're looking GREAT, Mo! I tried to click on the close-up of you after photo and it came up an error. FYI! When you fix that, let me know. :D YOU GO GIRL!

3.5 for the last two weeks for me, but this is not my regular doctor's scale and the general opinion is that it weighs a little heavy.

So if that's right, it makes 13.5 lbs total since 8/14.

Yeah, Netgrrl!

They are both after photos....I never really had many photos for "before".....embarrassed I guess.....they are both taken today.....

Looks AWESOME, Mo! Everybody, go check out this hot chica! :)

Check me in for a total 3 pound weight loss this week Jimmy!

Yes, another whole pound since Sunday morning and I now weigh in at exactly 250 pounds. Like you and Regina and others who are doing the Omega balancing act, this weight loss is definitely inexplicable by simply calories in/calories out. I'm in a caloric deficit, sure, but I'm eating above my basal metabolic rate and could account for maybe 3/4 of a pound a week. But I lost 4 times as much as I can account for by calories alone!

So, that's 10 pounds for the challenge thus far(starting Aug 25), 6 pounds into new territory, and 23 pounds to go to my short-term "non-obesity" challenge goal of 227.

I can now claim that I've lost a total of 70 pounds livin' la vida low-carb!

-David

That's so AWESOME, David! You're doing fantabulous and I'm glad to see the Omega Diet working so well for you, too. Anyone else have something to share?

way to go everyone! good job :)

i managed to lose 4 POUNDS this week!!! so i'm down 25 pounds in total...

the weird thing is i only worked out 1 day this week due to being very busy and being gone for a camping trip..heh

maybe the camping and hiking did something :)

After weighing last night I was sure I would show a gain this morning, but I somehow lost a huge amount of weight overnight and came in lower than last week! Yay! This week I lost 0.8 for a grand total of 3 pounds lost since I started (this is week 6 for me). Since I've lost the last 3 weeks in a row of eating lower calorie, I'll continue. I've finally found something that works. Keep the carbs low, and the fat and protein as high as possible given the number of calories.

143.8 today.

I'm revising my goal up. I will probably not realistically be able to maintain 137 even if I get there. I'll honestly be happy with anything in the 140 range, give or take a couple pounds.

Oh...off topic...you know that weight loss site that interviewed you and e-mailed you a bunch of questions? I was asked to give them my story, too! :) Hopefully I'll send in my interview in the next day or two.

AH HA - Steak and Ale!!! Prime Rib, all you can eat.....wish we had one near me!!!

Mo

It's awesome at Steak & Ale, Mo!

CONGRATULATIONS, Newbirth on the weight loss and the interview. Send me the link to it when it is posted and I'll give ya some props. :D

That's exercise, too, Michelle! :)

CONGRATS! We're shhhhhrrrrrriiiiinnkking!

Whoops! I meant to say I am 144.6 today. 143.8 was my low last week, but I bounced back up because I cheat a little on Saturday and don't do any counting. Still, I was correct about the 3 pound loss in the last 3 weeks of lower calorie, with a 0.8 pound loss this past week.

My jeans are looser so I'm headed down!

Ok then, I know where I am taking my parents to dinner when I get down to Florida in December!!!! Woohoo - Steak and Ale - BABY!!!!!

Ya!

Hi Everyone,
Only week 4 for me but I lost 2 pounds this week, for a total of 9.
1.5 inches off my hips and another .3 off my BMI.

I too have set myself a new goal.
I only set it for 13 pounds but I am going to get that in the next couple of weeks so now I have something else to strive for.

This challenge is certainly helping me stay focused so thanks Jimmy for starting it!

Wanda

Alright Wanda!!!

AS seems to be the way it goes for me on this challenge, I didn't lose anything. In fact, eating more calories as advised just made me gain 3 lbs. I've lost a totally of 4 pounds that I have kept off. I had lost more but them gained it back.
I'm going to do one more week on the higher calories as advised, but if I gain any more, I will have to try somthing else. I threw out all the clothes in bigger sizes, and I can't go back there.

You are all doing great and I applaud you. I know that eventually I will find the key for my weight loss.

You'll get there, too, Kathy! I KNOW IT! As I always say, KEEP AT IT, NEVER GIVE UP!

I didn't lose any this week, but I'm down a total of 15lbs in 2 months. I've lost 1.5 inches off my waist and hips. Good going everybody.

Hike2Health, thanks for checking in. We all have our "push" weeks from time to time, so don't get discouraged. You've got next week to look forward to. :D

Hi there!

Great reading your blog jimmy. I´m definitly NOT giving up =) Only a ½ pound loss this week, but i know it´s because i had more fruit(=carbs) and less fat this week. But from now on i´m back on my regular diet, and hope my gallbladder will cope ;-) Good luck everyone!

THANKS for checking in, Lena! Take it easy with that gall bladder issue. Listen to your body and know when you've reached your limits. I'm very proud of you and wish you continued success!
