'30-In-30' Challenge Week 9 Update
I'm gonna start this week right away with my weight loss results from this past week on the "30-In-30" Low-Carb Weight Loss Challenge:

ANOTHER POUND LOST which brings my total up to 22 pounds since August 1, 2006 towards my goal of losing 30 pounds in 30 weeks. Because of my tremendous success on the challenge, last week I announced my new weight loss goal would be 199 pounds (ONE-DERLAND, as someone put it!). That's just 19 more pounds to lose in the next 21 weeks--NOT impossible!
You wanna hear something that's pretty funny to me. My wife Christine has been trying to lose weight lately because it has creeped up on her teeny tiny body. When I met her she was 90 pounds, was 95 pounds when we got married and now over a decade of marriage has caught up to her. She's not had any kids, so there's no weight gain from that. But the difference in our weight is closing quickly.
I weighed 330 pounds compared to her 95 pounds on our wedding day back in 1995 and, as you know, I got as high as 410 pounds when she was about 120--close to a 300-pound weight difference! But now...
She weighed herself this morning and announced what it was. I started doing the math and noticed I'm LESS THAN 75 POUNDS from her weight. HA! I know, that's not funny, but the competitive side of me says, heck, I can get that lower! LOL! Whatever it takes to be motivated, I do it. And you should, too!
Next week will be Week 10 of the challenge as we cross the one-third mark. Would you be so kind as to share any stories of success, lessons learned, or some words of encouragement to your fellow participants in the "30-In-30" Low-Carb Weight Loss Challenge? I KNOW it would mean so much to everyone involved. THANKS!
I'm going to go ahead and post my menu from this past week here as well. You will notice my supplements CHANGED slightly this week to help boost my omega-3s even more:
3 teaspoons of liquid multivitamin (no iron)
1 brick men's multivitamin (no iron)
200mg Co Q-10
200mcg Chromium Picolinate

6 tablets Shaklee Super Calcium Magnesium Plus

Some of you might be thinking, DANG, HE'S EATING A LOT OF FOOD! Yep, I sure am and I'm making a point. Too many of us have the mistaken notion that you have to starve yourself to lose weight. But what happens is your body starts to become deprived of the calories it does need to function and you feel awful. Low-cab living is fun and exciting with LOTS of great foods to eat.
When your way of eating becomes dull and mundane, then you will stop eating the same way. That's why you see me change up my menu week after week because it should never be a drag to eat the low-carb way. If it is, then you aren't doing it right! Mix things up and do something different if you think low-carb is boring. Clearly, it is NOT!

You are doing awesome Jimmy! You are such an inspiration to all of us! Quick question, I notice you are eating sugar free pudding, in combinations I have never seen. Are you making these or are you buying them already prepared? Could you share your recipe?
Thanks for the ongoing inspiration!
Thanks for the ongoing inspiration!
THANKS for your support and comments. I'm using the Carb Counters puddings I blogged about recently. They are AWESOME!
I have a comment. Where are the vegetables? Some days it seems you aren't eating any, and other days you're eating less than Induction level at 2 cups?!? And you're eating a lot of "products." Bars stall me so count yourself lucky if you can eat that many and lose anything.
8 eggs a day? My cholesterol would be through the roof on that many.

GREAT QUESTION, Newbirth! But I addressed this at my blog the other day in response to the E. coli scare. My favorite salad green is spinach and I like pretty much any salad greens. But I'm not so sure it's safe right now. If that means doing without for a period of time, then so be it.
I did stock up on some cauliflower and green beans over the weekend and will gladly be eating these instead.

Jimmy,
Good job!!! I have used Newbirths recipe this past weekend for the caulflower/cheese bake and it was AWESOME....had it with steak, so I didn't miss my baked potatoe at all. I also had a salad (greens) so I didn't miss out of fiber either. Also, wanted to point out that Womens Day mag just recently had an article in their October issue listing the 10 best foods for weight loss. Peanuts, my favorite came in 5th on the list. They say it satisfies the system more and helps in the fat/protein ratio.....I eat them in handfuls if I can. You don't need much and they do help!!! Spinach was on the list, but I didn't have my spinach salad at lunch yesterday. Still wondering about all of that, and do I want to take that big of a risk. Not now, when I'm under my 200 mark and going strong!!! YEAH!!!

Are you really sure about that? Have you actually consistently eaten what is considered a high amount of eggs each day and then gotten your blood tested?
Unless you have a condition called "familial hypercholesterolemia" which only less than 1% of the population has, the dietary cholesterol found in eggs (specifically the yolk) will have little or no effect on blood cholesterol levels. In fact, that "little" effect may well be to raise the highly desirable HDL, and in doing so, raise the entirely insignificant measure of "total cholesterol" simply by the math, yet the underlying ratios showing marked improvements.
I consistantly eat at least 4 whole eggs a day often going to 8 or more and my blood lipid profile has only improved by doing so.

Hi Jimmy,
I noticed that, in addition to upping your fish oil intake (WTG!!!) that you've switched out the flax seed oil in favor of the Atkins Essential Oils. Although a smaller amount than in full flax seed oil supplements, the AEO does also contain flax seed oil. It was for that reason that I dropped them in favor of fish oil exclusively.
I've just converted from the fish oil caps to the liquid, divided into 2 one-teaspoon doses, one morning, one evening. There are approximately 4.5 grams per teaspoon, so, I'm now doing approximately 9 of fish oil a day.
I have to say that, although I've never used a liquid oil supplement before, to my surprise, it's not the least bit unpleasant. The Carlson's Very Best Fish Oil has an added lemon flavor. It looks and tastes just as though I'm taking a teaspoon full of lemon flavored EVOO. The sensation of taking the oil directly is a very unusual "mouth feel", but it's not objectionable at all. Taking it this way, I can be assured of the critical freshness of the oil and it costs less too. The comperable Carlson's capsules would cost about 80 cents a day, but the liquid only costs about 47 cents.

Yeah, Mo! Way to go!
I agree with you about the eggs, David. I regularly eat them and will be having my blood work rechecked soon. We'll see how all that cholesterol I'm eating impacts my numbers.

Jimmy,
Doesn't the high cholesterol come from family genes as well. My mother has high cholesterol and she doesn't eat ANY EGGS or dairy either. I think she takes a pill for it - Zelnorm or something? I eat eggs every day almost, if I can't get them, the atkins bars or shakes help out as I am not able to make breakfast every day. Hey, thanks for the ChocoPerfection tip. I just ordered some for the holidays. I'm getting ready to fight back.

Weigh in day already!!
I gotta tell you that I was bummed to find out that I only lost 1/2 a pound. I mean no cheating and lots of workouts and only .5 of a pound?Darn!
But
the good news is: I have access to a fat monitor and have been doing that since I started. This week I was down .8 or almost a percentage point!!!!!!!! So that makes up for the stupid half pound!!!!!! I know if you are losing fat like that you are BURNING!!!!!!
Jimmy you are doing great.....and kicking my butt while you are at it!!LOL!
I would like to eat some of the ATKINS stuff too but I hate the taste of sucrulose!!! ugggggg
but I am researching other stuff so I am going to try it soon.
Wanda

Weight not down, but not up either. I'm glad I didn't gain because I had a couple of get togethers this weekend and had too much (low-carb) junk food.
Wanda, don't beat yourself up over ONLY losing a half pound. That's a HALF POUND closer to goal, baby!
And diamondwife, you'll get back on the bandwagon. The key is to NEVER GIVE UP, okay?
You all are all WINNERS at LOSING in my book. :D

Genetics is involved, too, but too many people fret over cholesterol when they shouldn't. If we learned to relax more, then it would be a nonissue in our society without the use of drugs.
Glad you wanted to try ChocoPerfection. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised, Mo! SEE YA!

Thanks Jimmy, I know you are right and the way I am burning I KNOW I am getting leaner even if the scales don't say. Just have to keep telling myself that!!!!!!!!!
The only thing that held me off last night when I weighed in, was the fat percentage. I was surprised to see it down that much in just one week.
Now as far as the cholesterol issue:before the last time I went on low carb I was on lipitor and even though I was eating almost as many eggs as Jimmy is, my cholesterol went down and was taken off the meds. I was surprised since I thought the same thing at the time about it.

>Are you really sure about that? Have you actually consistently eaten what is considered a high amount of eggs each day and then gotten your blood tested?<
Yep, I was eating 3 a day and my LDL jumped 40 points. That was the only dietary change. I've cut back to one a day and expect when I am retested that it will go down a bit.

Down 2 pounds this week, but 1.5 pounds was in one day. I suspect my true loss is closer to the 0.4 I was down on Monday. I lose slow, so I'm happy with anything. :) I suspect since I lost 2 pounds this week that I won't lose anything next week (may even go up a bit), and that's okay.
I took a wrong turn, Jimmy, but I am coming back fighting. I had a bag of potato chips and a candy bar on Sunday. So I ended up with a 1 pound gain.
I have Jonny's CDs in the car and will listen to them again. People are starting to notice I look good!

Hi again!
This week i GAINED almost one pound?? I haven´t cheated but i have been exercising a bit less than i should. So this week i´m having eggs every morning ( i make some sort of pancakes out of two eggs, 1 tbspn cream+ grated coconut. served with sugarfree jam ). And lots of warm food-meat, fish+ veggies. I eat spinach almost everyday. I cook it, spice it upp and add some cream cheese ( fresh cheese )- it tastes delightful. =)

Hike2Health,
The important thing is that you realize you made a poor choice and you are changing that. The key is to not allow yourself to fall into a guilt trap where you rationalize that you messed up one time, so yuor weight loss is over. You know this, but WRONG! You are doing SUPERB! I'm sure people love the way you are changing now. KEEP IT UP!
Sockerpinglan,
You will have weeks where the scale does move up despite doing all the right things. You are a real trooper and I urge you to stay in the game even when the score is not on your side. I'm confident you can make a comeback and rise to victory at just the right moment. Consider me your coach! :)
THANKS for sharing! Anyone else?

Come on coach(gee where have I heard that before!HE HE) can you do better then that?
You know we want it off and we want it off NOW!!!!LOL!!
I am fighting right now to even stay on and I am only in week 5. I am having big stomach problems and I am not sure why??? Not enough fibre? Not enough food? Heartburn when there is nothing there to give it to me.........I have no idea but I have never had this problem before!UGggggggggggg
Well that and the fact that about this time, when you start seeing results there are lost of ways to sabatage what is being being done.
1/2 a pound with all of this work didn't help either......
Gee do I sound like I am complaining coach?
Maybe I am!!!!
This isn't all warm and fuzzy all the time, right?!!!!!LOL!
