'30-In-30' Challenge Week 15 Update

It's Week 15--HALFWAY HOME!--in the "30-in-30" Low-Carb Weight Loss Challenge and everyone should be feeling so much lighter than they did when they started. Right? This journey isn't about some temporary way to eat for a short period of time so you can get back to eating "normal" again. Why would you do that to yourself when such amazing things are happening to your body?

Think about all the changes you are experiencing right now.

Besides the obvious loose clothes and smaller belly, do you even notice that you are more energetic, feel lighter on your feet, or have a desire to exercise? It's hard to convince people this will happen, but it does. You just have to try it once and you'll be hooked!

Or how about the fact you can breathe, your body temperature feels cooler, and you're not sweating as much as you used to? It's a positive sign of exciting changes that are happening from within. Enjoy reaping the benefits of low-carb living!

Do you feel more outgoing than you did before, willing to speak to people who you would have otherwise NEVER said a single word to? Has your confidence risen to a level where people are beginning to ask what's different about you? That happened to me and now they can't shut me up! :D

On the issues regarding food, does eating sugar repulse you, are you finding yourself eating less than you ever have before without hunger, have you started feeling like YOU have control over your eating perhaps for the first time in your life?

These are only scratching the surface of things that can and WILL change for you as you progress forward in your weight loss. Never lose sight of the fact that you are making yourself better and the changes are forever. To permanently bring your weight and health under control is one of the greatest feelings you can ever have. I will never be the same again!

How did I do in Week 15 following my slight weight gain last week?

I lost 3 1/2 pounds and 215 pounds is my lowest weight since the challenge began on August 1. At the halfway mark when I was hoping to lose 15 pounds, I have lost a total of 25 pounds. WOO HOO! Of course, I revised my goal to 199 a few weeks back and am only 16 pounds away from that goal now. To reach it, I will need to lose about 1.1 pounds per week--VERY DOABLE!

How about you? Any changes you want to share with everyone since you started "30-In-30"? How's your progress at the mid-point of the challenge? Share your comments with us so we can celebrate with you. Even if it's been a tough road or if you only joined in the past few weeks, we'd like to hear from you, too! Let's talk about it, okay? Can't wait to hear from you!

Congrats Jimmy, That is great!!

Week 11 for me........
I lost 2 pounds this week.

I do feel lighter and I am ready for another size smaller pants.
I go in spurts with my food, like on the weekend I couldn't fill myself. After a protein shake, some almonds and some chicken I finally just went to bed!!LOL! Other times I don't want to eat.
Being cooler? I never thought of that but I guess it is true, now that I think about it.
I do notice my shoes aren't as tight as they used to be too and I walk with more energy.

Let me share this one!LOL!
I work around a bunch of military men and one of them told me that the guys that are away (6 months in Afganistan)aren't going to know me when they come back!!
I laughed at that one. At least they noticed!!

IT's all good at this point!!

Wanda

That's so AWESOME, Wanda! You probably have what I like to call the "weight loss glow"--it ties in with the confidence thing and people can't help but notice and be attracted by it. I'm so proud of you, Wanda, and wish you continued success. Keep shining and being beautiful!

Anyone else have a story to share?

I went on vacation this week and stayed on plan, if my calories were a bit high. My weight is same as last week, but up from when I started. My husband and I started a clean induction Monday and I know the scale will reflect a smaller number at my next weigh in.

Stick with it, diamondwife. The good news is you recognized it was time to recommit and you did it. Now follow through on that commitment and reap the benefits. You WILL do it this time, right?! GO GET 'EM!

Once again, my weight bounced around like a ping pong ball. ;)

But in the end, I was actually down a pound from last week by today. So halfway through the 30 in 30, I've only lost a total of about 12 lbs. That's still a couple pounds short of goal for this point, but hey, it's certainly better than it was when we started. In order to lose the full 30 pounds, I'd need to lose 18 more, or 1.2 lbs per week. Considering the way I've been struggling to even lose a full pound a week, I'm not sure I'll make that goal. Again, even if I don't lose all 30 in the allotted time, I'll still be better off than I was when we started this.

By the way, this wasn't my lowest weight of the week. I hit that on Saturday, but by Monday it had bounced back up again.

I don't really understand the thing of my weight going up a couple pounds on Monday all the time any more - unless I'm just a lot more sensitive to salt than I previously thought, because I did have a couple meals in there that had a little more salt than usual. It's not like I'm pigging out on weekends or anything that would be expected to cause the sudden Monday gains.

...how about the fact you can breathe, your body temperature feels cooler...

My body temperature is *anything* but cooler!

Well, my skin might be cooler to the touch on the rare occasions when I feel cool enough, but I seem to be hot all the time anymore. Part of it is my age (Real women don't get hot flashes, we get power surges!), but I also think my metabolism is so revved up from all the exercise and fat burning that I have trouble cooling down enough. This is one reason why even if I don't have time for a full workout at the gym, I'll still go for a swim, because the water cools me off. Of course, by the time I've swam a good 3/4 mile, I'm all warmed up again. Also, I've never been one to perspire much at all, and I still don't - even after an hour or more on the various weighted resistance and cardio machines at the gym, I don't really sweat - my face will be red as a beet, but my skin will only be a little damp here and there. I just don't perspire enough to cool myself down, and never have.

...does eating sugar repulse you, are you finding yourself eating less than you ever have before without hunger...

The taste of sugar has repulsed me since shortly after I stopped using any sugars or sweets, about 4-1/2 years ago.

The lack of hunger thing is a very different feeling though. In fact my first clue that something I've eaten might have been a bit higher in carbs than I thought (or worse yet, had some hidden sugar in it), is that I get hungry again within an hour or two. As long as I'm eating very low carb foods, I just don't get hungry for hours and hours.

THANKS for sharing, Calianna! It's funny how eating carbs makes you so freakin' hungry you could eat a horse. But actually eating the horse with all that protein and fat will keep you satisfied for most of the day. That's the low-carb magic! You hang in there and don't give up. I'm here rooting for you all the way. GO GIRL!

I gained 1.4 because of my planned cheat on Friday. I've lost a whole 2 pounds since we started. *sigh*

I remember you talking about your "planned cheat" and that you thought you'd be up about 2 pounds. It wasn't as bad as you thought. Plus, you may have "only" lost 2 pounds but that's two more than you had not long ago and at least you're not going up again! Bright side, my dear, bright side.

Good for you, Jimmy.

I lost 2 for a total of 19 in 15 weeks. I didn't have as many low carb treats this past week.

Have a good Thanksgiving, everyone!

Hey there - Jimmy, you are really moving down the scales!!! You'll be passing me by soon!!! I am holding steady at 196. I feel ok, but a little on the low side this week. Alot of stress has been hitting me and work is just at non-stop speed. I've had some bad things happen too so, I'm trying to look on the bright side and paint a happy face. I've also been really tired. Could be the weather change. Dreary Ohio gets depressing. I am going to Florida to visit my parents on the 30th, but it isn't coming fast enough for me. It's been a while since I've seen them, and they won't recognize me. They don't know I've changed my habits yet. I don't consider it a diet, it's a new way of thinking. I will keep my eggs on the sunny side! :-)
Thanks Jimmy! - MO

Great job, Hike! I'll address Thanksgiving next Tuesday and quite possibly in my podcast show next week as well. Keep up the great work! You are making it, my friend.

Don't be discouraged, Mo. Buck the trend that comes with this time of year and SUCCEED on your weight loss plan. YOU CAN DO IT!!! Your family won't know who you are!

I can't wait to see my mom, sister and brother Kevin next week for Thanksgiving. SEE YA!

hanging head low, Mr. F announces a 3 pound gain since this challenge started. Well, feeling better, started induction again, was at 277 on November 1, and yesterday was at 265. Mrs. F, although in a maintenance mode, is ready to begin yet again.

The F's listened to the first podcast and enjoyed it thoroughly.

THANKS Mr. & Mrs. Fat! Keep at it guys, you're gonna do great!

Just when I thought it was going slowly...

Just dropped another 2 pounds as of this morning!

Challenge week 12 for me, challenge stats: 260/245/227

11 pounds into new territory for a total of 76 pound lost with low-carb.

Visiting the doc in a couple weeks. Oh am I looking forward to this!
