'30-In-30' Challenge Week 17 Update

I hope this isn't the last picture taken with my brother Kevin
When it comes to going on vacation, I'm the kind of person who would much rather stay home and just take in the sights and sounds of life in my area that are normally overlooked in the day-to-day living to simply relax and enjoy myself. Loading up the car with a bunch of luggage, driving umpteen hundred miles to get to your destination, and then trying to cram in activity after activity to entertain yourself is not my idea of the perfect vacation. Don't you need a vacation from your vacation when you get back?!
But one thing trumps all of that when it comes to going on vacation: seeing your family! My wife Christine has family north of us and my family is split between west and south of our home in South Carolina. We try to make the rounds every year or so and it had been a couple of years since we went to visit my mother. stepdad, brother and sister who all live in the same town. So we decided to travel down I-85 (through some horrendous traffic there and back going through Atlanta!) to see my family over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Here's my family sitting around the table after the Thanksgiving meal
My sister Beverly was so gracious to open her home up for Thanksgiving when she heard we were coming and that we wanted to surprise Kevin. My mom had planned on going out to eat with my stepdad, Beverly and Kevin for turkey day, but my dear sister wanted it to be more special than that with us driving down to visit. She did an excellent job with the meal!

That's my pretty little sister Beverly who is two years younger than me
Mom cooked the turkey and brough ham and Beverly did the rest. They allowed me to cook up a batch of my mashed cauliflower and low-carb stuffing, although my mom and stepdad weren't very thrilled with either. Oh well, it wasn't for them to eat now, was it? :D
I didn't eat any of the desserts that were prepared because they were loaded with sugar and flour. But everyone made sure to tell me how mmm mmm good the chocolate pie and apple pie was. Not for me because I'm livin' la vida low-carb and those are just RAT POISON! LOL!

From left to right, my mom, my wife Christine, and my brother Kevin
We didn't have a whole lot of time together over the weekend because he had some odd and end things to do, but I was able to see my brother Kevin a little. As many of you know, he has had quite a year since being told by a doctor to lose weight or die. Despite this grim warning, Kevin has not lost a lot of weight yet and his health has paid the price.
I was very tempted to tell Kevin what he needed to do to shed those pounds and get his health in order. However, more than anything else, I just wanted him to know he was being thought about, prayed for, and wished well by countless numbers of people (mostly YOU!) who really do care about him and want to see him well. He wanted me to let you know he appreciates your concern and that he is going to try to do something about his situation. We can hope and continue to pray at this point.

Kevin's a big man who has had one doozy of a life so far
One thing that shocked me was when we sat down to watch a movie together as a family on Saturday night was when mom made a big batch of brownies. The aroma in the air was just too much for Kevin to bear, so he went and loaded up his plate with 4 large blocks of brownies with ice cream on top. Keep in mind he's a Type 2 diabetic and morbidly obese! Oh, you don't know how much I wanted to scream, "NOOOOOOO!!! YOU DON'T NEED THAT, KEVIN!!!" But I bit my lip and remained silent.

My beautiful Christine with my brother Kevin
I learned a long time ago that you can't force someone to change who isn't ready to change. They have to be ready and it's our job to serve as an example until they are. That's all I have left to hope for at this point. Kevin is a 39-year old man who doesn't need someone to hold his hand about what to do with his life. He alone makes the decisions about his life and he will have to face the consequences of his actions at some point. Hopefully he'll have a "later" to get to it.
It was so good to see my skinny momma looking so good following her gastric bypass surgery three years ago. But the woman eats worse than a bird does nibbling on about three or four bites of food and then stopping. Amazing! Yet she looks absolutely fantastic and I'm so proud of her.
My stepdad pulled out his glucose meter on Saturday to check his blood sugar and wanted to see what reading everyone else had. My mom was in the 160s, my wife Christine was in the 120s, and Kevin refused to have his checked (maybe 300+ after that brownie bonanza?!). So he came to me and his jaw dropped to the floor when he saw my reading was 86.
He asked me if I was feeling okay and I said I felt perfectly fine. He said that my blood sugar was a little on the low-side. I told him that's pretty normal for someone who is controlling his carb intake to manage his weight and health. Let's just say it left an indelible impression on him that may have him counting carbs and watching his sugar. THAT is the power of being an example for others to follow.
Overall, the time away was amazing except for the fact that I missed blogging for you while I was gone. But I promised Christine I would not blog, so I didn't. Now I'm back in the saddle ready to keep providing you quality content that you can use as part of your low-carb lifestyle. THANK YOU for giving me a few days off and I look forward to the year 2007 which will be here before you know it!
Hopefully, my brother Kevin will make 2007 his banner year for a comeback with his weight and health. Otherwise, I don't think he's gonna have any more chances. YOU CAN DO IT, KEVIN! JUST DON'T GIVE UP! DON'T EVER GIVE UP!
Here's how I did on Week 17 of "30-In-30":

I gained 1 1/2 pounds, but that's not too bad considering I didn't get to exercise but maybe half an hour while I was on vacation. I'm sure I can get my weight back down again in very short order by getting back into the normal routine again this week. That's the only bad thing about the holidays--you get out of your day-to-day schedule. But that's okay because it was worth every minute of time I was able to spend with Kevin and the family.
How was your Thanksgiving week? Did you gain a little...maybe a lot? Or perhaps you did VERY well and actually LOST weight this week. Do tell, do tell...

The LLVLC Show #6: Got A Problem With Eating Too Much Sugar? Listen To This!
This week I get into the subject of sugar and the direct role it plays in weight and health. While many will deny there is any negative impact on your health from consuming sugar, people who are livin' la vida low-carb know better. If you have been able to kick the sugar habit in your life, then you will LOVE this podcast show. However, if you are struggling with sugar addiction, I offer some helpful hints on overcoming that and moving forward with your life.
Be sure to provide any comments that you would like about Episode 6 at the official web site for the show. The tremendous growth that the show has experienced in just the past two weeks alone tells me that many of you ARE listening and telling others about it. THANK YOU so much for doing that and I urge others to do the same.

'30-In-30' Challenge Week 16 Update

That would be NO CHANGE in my weight last week, but that's a good thing headed into Thanksgiving week. Millions of people will be stuffing themselves until they're full and beyond on Thursday and then grazing all weekend on the leftovers.
Sure, the turkey and ham are good for you to eat, but what about all the rest of that spread of high-carb foods like dressing, cranberry sauce, homemade pumpkin pie, and so much more that we Americans have become accustomed to on Thanksgiving? Food, food, and more food is EVERYWHERE!
DOES THIS DAY MAKE YOU GO ABSOLUTELY BONKERS OR WHAT?!
Don't worry because we're all in this thing together. Thanksgiving is an opportunity to prove to yourself that you have made this a permanent lifestyle change that you can and will live with for the rest of your life. There's no use in trying to conform to societal standards when you are trying to lose weight, get healthy and stay healthy. Who cares that everyone else will be shoving food in their mouths so fast they can barely stop and savor the reason for this special day of gratitude.
I for one am looking forward to Thanksgiving. Part of it has to do with the fact that my wife Christine and I will be traveling to visit my mom, sister and brother Kevin for the holiday (we are surprising my brother since it may be the last time we see him alive) and the big meal will be taking place at my sister Beverly's house. They know I am on low-carb, so they are planning to do some special dishes just for me. Awww, ain't that sweet!
In fact, after I wrote in my book about how Beverly bought me the fat-free version of Ranch a couple of years ago thinking it was "healthier," my dear mother was so nice to call me BEFORE we came to visit and ask what they can get me to eat while I am there with them.
"Can I just buy you a bunch of meat or something?," she asked. Laughing out loud, I told my mom that she can also get me some nice fresh greens like spinach leaves, cauliflower, broccoli, green beans, and salad fixings! Also, full-fat versions of Ranch dressing, cheese, and so much more to make my stay a nourishing one. I also told her that if she is going to buy some diet sodas to make sure they have Splenda in them and not aspartame.
One last item was low-carb candy: don't buy any that have maltitol in them. She agreed to just avoid getting ANY for me and that's a good idea. :) I'm bringing some ChocoPerfections bars with me to make some low-carb chocolate covered bluberries. Mmmmm!
I don't like putting people out, but mom was nice enough to ask before just assuming what I wanted. This is an important step for people who are on low-carb to remember--people can't read your mind or may not understand what low-carb living is all about, so share what you can and can't eat on your low-carb plan. Don't get to Thanksgiving day and then say, "Oh shoot, there's nothing to eat here except turkey and ham!" That's YOUR fault if it happens for not planning ahead.
And for goodness sake, don't take the day off of your diet on Thanksgiving. Sure, there are wonderful smells in the air and everything looks so good, but you will feel miserable afterwards and the resulting weight gain that happens. It's just not worth the heartache and pain, so eat the low-carb choices that you can and leave the rest for everyone else to get fattened up on.
Thanksgiving is a time for reflection and I want you to honestly evaluate your life over these past few months here at "30-In-30." Do you feel excited about what is happening to you? Is this becoming the lifestyle that you always wanted to live to lose weight and keep it off forever? Has low-carbing become almost automatic for you? If so, then WONDERFUL and CONGRATULATIONS!
But you may one of those who is struggling with cravings for carbs and finds a way to sneak in a bite or two (or three or four) of those foods you know you don't need. In my podcast show this week, I even mentioned how I fell into this trap for a period of time earlier in the year which is what led me to begin this challenge in the first place.
We've all been there, but it's no time to give up on the low-carb lifestyle. Instead, you should use these temptations as a motivating reminder of your commitment to better living and double up your efforts to get going again on reaching your goal and remaining focused on what is going to be important 3 months, 6 months, and even a year from now--permanent low-carb weight loss success! Envision that happening in your mind RIGHT NOW! You won't want to mess up if you do.
Nobody ever thinks about the consequences of gorging themselves at Thanksgiving and Christmas until January rolls around and you've put on 15-20 pounds. Don't be one of those people! You're stronger than that and will survive, even thrive at this time of year if you trudge forward with the knowledge that everything is going to be okay if you don't go hog wild at the dinner table on Thursday and for the next five weeks. You'll be so relieved that you avoided the BLAH feeling that follows that meal and I want you to think about that ahead of time.
Come Thanksgiving, you'll be armed and ready for any temptation that comes your way. Don't give in even a little and then reap the rewards of your steadfast desire to be healthy for the rest of your life. YOU CAN DO IT!

'30-In-30' Challenge Week 15 Update
Think about all the changes you are experiencing right now.
Besides the obvious loose clothes and smaller belly, do you even notice that you are more energetic, feel lighter on your feet, or have a desire to exercise? It's hard to convince people this will happen, but it does. You just have to try it once and you'll be hooked!
Or how about the fact you can breathe, your body temperature feels cooler, and you're not sweating as much as you used to? It's a positive sign of exciting changes that are happening from within. Enjoy reaping the benefits of low-carb living!
Do you feel more outgoing than you did before, willing to speak to people who you would have otherwise NEVER said a single word to? Has your confidence risen to a level where people are beginning to ask what's different about you? That happened to me and now they can't shut me up! :D
On the issues regarding food, does eating sugar repulse you, are you finding yourself eating less than you ever have before without hunger, have you started feeling like YOU have control over your eating perhaps for the first time in your life?
These are only scratching the surface of things that can and WILL change for you as you progress forward in your weight loss. Never lose sight of the fact that you are making yourself better and the changes are forever. To permanently bring your weight and health under control is one of the greatest feelings you can ever have. I will never be the same again!
How did I do in Week 15 following my slight weight gain last week?

I lost 3 1/2 pounds and 215 pounds is my lowest weight since the challenge began on August 1. At the halfway mark when I was hoping to lose 15 pounds, I have lost a total of 25 pounds. WOO HOO! Of course, I revised my goal to 199 a few weeks back and am only 16 pounds away from that goal now. To reach it, I will need to lose about 1.1 pounds per week--VERY DOABLE!
How about you? Any changes you want to share with everyone since you started "30-In-30"? How's your progress at the mid-point of the challenge? Share your comments with us so we can celebrate with you. Even if it's been a tough road or if you only joined in the past few weeks, we'd like to hear from you, too! Let's talk about it, okay? Can't wait to hear from you!

Jimmy Moore's Podcast Bucking Conventional Wisdom To Effect Change
The sad truth of this universally-held axiom is all around us. All you have to do is look at the glut of television and print marketing ads, the not-so-conspicuous "low-fat" and "fat-free" food labeling, and the constant mind-numbed regurgitation of this robotic message from those who are in authority about how people should be eating. It's inescapable for people to not be influenced by this neverending bombardment of information.
But the evidence against such dogmatic interpretations about what constitutes a "healthy" diet is beginning to mount and the facts are now being exposed for all the world to hear on the brand new "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore" podcast from GNM Health, a subsidiary of Grasshopper New Media.
Although only a few weeks old, this podcast show is quickly breaking the mold and bucking the trend against the status quo conventional wisdom that the media and the so-called health "experts" would have you believe about the subject of a healthy diet. Highlighted by the nearly 200-pound low-carb weight loss success story of the host, Jimmy Moore, this podcast stands ready to boldy proclaim the positive and uplifting message that low-carb living is STILL changing lives today.
With three episodes in the can already that have shattered some of the most common myths about how healthy and mainstream the low-carb lifestyle really is, Episode 4 is very likely the most important podcast yet for this young podcast show because it directly challenges those who oppose low-carb with actual scientific evidence that there is now long-term evidence published in a highly-respected and well-known medical journal by researchers out of Harvard. There's no way to hide from these facts and the dietary dissidents know it, too!

Listen to Episode 4 of "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore" (November 13, 2006) RIGHT NOW by clicking on the appropriate link below (you don't need an iPod to listen--just turn up the volume on your computer and use any of the links provided):
Be sure to visit the show notes section for Episode 4 for a recap, links mentioned in the podcast, and a full transcript of the show. Leave some feedback about the show in the comments section whether you liked it or not. We'd LOVE to hear from you!
If those of us who are bucking convention wisdom are going to be about bringing permanent change in the way our society looks at nutrition and health information in the United States and around the world, then we need to be on the frontlines of sharing the truth when it is staring us right in the face. Once you've been exposed to this kind of undeniable evidence, you can't just sit idly by waiting for others to do the right thing because it will never happen. We need to take it in our own hands and that's what "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show" is doing.
Here's a challenge for YOU this week: Tell at least 10 of your friends, family and interested individuals about "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore." Encourage them to listen at TheLivinLowCarbShow.com and be willing to set aside any of their old ways of thinking about diet and weight loss. Once the truth is revealed, it's hard to go back to believing that way ever again!
You can also listen to the podcast at iTunes or through the RSS feed. Regardless of how you listen, I appreciate the fact that you are one of those brave few who aren't afraid of hearing the truth. We need more people like you listening and supporting efforts like "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore" because there are tens of millions who need help, hope, and a heart willing to listen to their struggles.
It's not easy living in a world that seems to be deceiving us with mixed messages about what is good for our bodies. But the truth is out there and will be openly shared on "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show." Give it a listen TODAY!

Not Just Livin', It's 'The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore'
The accolades for "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show" podcast continue to pile up as more and more people are being attracted to the uplifting, positive message about the low-carb lifestyle that I present each week.
Here are a few more of those comments about Episode 3:
"Great podcast, as usual! I loved your message to restauranteurs: they are only hurting themselves by ignoring low-carbers 'cause we aren't going anywhere! Keep up the great work, Jimmy!"
****************************
"Another well done show! This episode was very 'meaty' (no pun intended) and presented very well. I am so glad to hear that low carb meus are still out there and that the consumer is being heard."
****************************
"I just listened to your latest podcast, and the main thing that occurred to me is the fact that each podcast is getting better and better. You are learning, and improving with each one. This one had a very 'professional-quality' feel about it, and I was impressed. What I liked most about the podcast is finding out that half of the survey participants, whether they realize it or not, are trying to follow at least some of the bullet point items of low carb, like reducing or eliminating sugar and other unhealthy carbs. I wonder how many of those people would then turn around and say that low carb is an unhealthy fad diet???"
****************************
"I look forward to these podcasts--new info about low-carb that I would not be aware of if it wasn't for Jimmy's research. He is truly a great teacher of the lifestyle."
****************************
"Excellent show this week and congratulations on landing ChocoPerfection as a sponsor. Thanks for pointing out the results of those surveys. I get frustrated when restaurants (and grocery stores) stop carrying low-carb friendly items because 'the low-carb craze is over.' Keep up the good work!"
****************************
"Jimmy, I love your podcasts. What I liked most about the podcast is the affirmation that the low-carb way of life is not just a fad or a even a diet--it truly is a way of life that has allowed me to lose almost 50 pounds in 6 months. I still have about 30 pounds to go but I know I'll get there if I'm steadfast and unwavering in my determination to succeed. I can't tell you what I liked least about the podcast because there wasn't anything that I didn't like. It was informative and entertaining and I appreciate you taking the time and making the effort to produce a podcast that inspires and motivates those of us who are livin' la vida low carb."
****************************
On Mondays, you can visit the official web site for "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore" or iTunes to download and listen to the show each week.
When I started this podcast a few weeks ago, I merely wanted to present the message of livin' la vida low-carb in another format that could potentially reach an audience of people who would not necessarily visit and read my blog. But at the same time, I am extremely grateful for the support my readers have given this show and urge many more of you who believe in the things I write about low-carb to listen.
Don't just listen, though, get engaged as well by telling others about "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show." You don't know how much that would really help show the powers that be in the world of diet and health that low-carb IS still a viable nutritional approach that is being used by millions of people today. There is nothing else in the debate of ideas over health out there like my podcast show and I would like to see it make an inroads into the mainstream of public consumption for diet news and information.
Making a meaningful impact on our culture is going to take more of these "out-of-box" strategies like a podcast show to spread the message. I think we all agree that low-carb lifestyle is beneficial on many levels for both weight and health management, right? So why wouldn't we want to come together in one accord to bring livin' la vida low-carb to the masses?
It's kinda like a church expecting people to come on Sunday mornings without some sort of outreach program. You can have the most friendly people in the whole world, a dynamic and upbeat music ministry, a gifted and annointed preacher, and everything you need for the best church possible. But if nobody knows about it, none of that really matters.
Think of "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show" in the same way. I spend a good deal of time researching, writing, rewriting, recording, and bringing you the best possible content I can provide on a weekly basis and am considering doing more than one show weekly very soon. But the growth will be predicated on whether people listen to the show or not. Are you enjoying what you are hearing? Is there something I can be doing that would make the show even better? Don't be shy, share your comments with me at livinlowcarbman@charter.net.
What an amazing first few weeks it has been with this podcast show as literally hundreds of people in each of the first three weeks have listened to it through iTunes and at TheLivinLowCarbShow.com. But there are hundreds, thousands, even tens or hundreds of thousands MORE people right now who could benefit from learning about the principles of low-carb living while being encouraged by someone who's been there before himself. Will you commit to sharing about "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show" with someone you care about this week? They'll thank you for it someday when their life is forever changed!
I don't take any of this for granted and consider it a true honor and a privilege to serve you here at my blog and on my podcast show. If nobody cared what I had to say, then there would be no reason for me to keep doing what I am doing. As long as people are being educated, encouraged and inspired to make permanent and lasting changes in their diet and health, then all of the energy and time I have dedicated to these ventures is worth it all! I won't stop as long as people need help overcoming their obesity and the diseases that come with it. It's NOT impossible as hopefully my success story illustrates.
THANK YOU so much for your faithful and loving support for what I do to share about livin' la vida low-carb to a world that is desperately searching for real answers to their weight and health problems. We have the answer for many of them, so let's be about the business of sharing that answer with them even more as we quickly approach the new year. It's NEVER too late to begin taking your health seriously enough to get it back on track if you have slipped. As always, I'm here to help.
Tune in to "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore" each week and please do what you can to tell others about the work we are doing. I appreciate that more than you could ever know. If you have a blog or web site, then I urge you to share about the podcast show there. If you do, then send me an e-mail and I'll post a link to your site as a THANK YOU for your mention.
Remember, it's not just livin', your livin' la vida low-carb! SEE YA!

'30-In-30' Challenge Week 14 Update

So I gained three pounds this week. That's okay, I know the weight will fluctuate as much as 10 pounds as you get closer to your goal. It happens, so you need to learn how to deal with it. The main thing is to NOT let this discourage you on your way to reaching your ultimate goal. You are doing FANTASTIC and I don't want you to ever forget it.
Screw the scale and think about how you feel. Are you happier and feel better than you ever have in your entire life? GOOD! That's the amazing miracle about weight loss that you can't really explain to people who have never gone through it. The freedom from being trapped inside the body of a fat person is overwhelming. Savor the moment.
It's November now and you know what that means--the most challenging time of the year for someone trying to lose weight is here. More diets have bitten the dust in the time between Halloween and New Year's Day than at any other time of the year. Why do we do that to ourselves? We know Thanksgiving and Christmas is coming at the same time every year, so what's the big deal about these holidays that causes us to want to overeat?
I have a few theories about this:
1. The cold weather
We humans seem to have a built-in survival mechanism that attempts to protect our bodies from being harmed. At the first sign of a cool breeze or frost on the ground, it's as if a switch inside of you is turned on and you can't help but eat, eat, and eat some more. Does anybody know what I'm talking about? You just can't seem to feed yourself fast enough and you don't feel bad about it either...not until January 1, that is! Try to be aware of this trigger and resist the tendency to eat when you are not really hungry.
2. The peer pressure
When you get around a group of people at your work or with your family during the holidays, it is inevitable that you will feel an insatiable desire and need to graze on the seemingly endless amounts of food available to you. Your co-worker or uncle will say something like, "Aw, come on, the holidays only come once a year. Go ahead and enjoy yourself!" Let me tell you from firsthand experience, that is one of the biggest lies you will EVER hear. Don't give in just because of peer pressure. You have come to far to unravel all you have done these past few months over an indulgence you'll forget about come January!
3. The lack of focus
Who among us hasn't gotten so caught up in the thrill of the holidays that you feel a bit detached from reality. While it isn't a constant thing, there is at least one time during this time of the year that you forget about your normal routine and you simply reminisce about the days gone by. There's nothing wrong with doing that unless you are in a perpetual state of mind like this. If so, watch out! You are susceptible to experiencing a lack of focus on what you should be doing and opening yourself up for disaster in your weight loss goals.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of theories for why we overeat during the holidays, but it's a good place to start the wheels turning in your own mind about why this happens. If you have anything along these lines you would like to share with us, then please impart your wisdom and experience to this conversation. WE WILL MAKE IT THROUGH THE HOLIDAYS! Don't give up on it and you will feel so incredibly relieved come January when everybody and their momma will be wanting to go on a diet! You'll be one step ahead of them at that point! :P
Talk about YOUR Week 14 and share it with all of us. How's it going?

Episode 2 also set a milestone for listeners surpassing the 500 mark in just the second week! The show begins with a challenge to overweight and obese people to get started on their weight loss, a survey about the low-carb consumer dictating to restaurants how to cater to their needs, and another survey showing livin' la vida low-carb is a bit more mainstream in our society than the media would have you believe.

Even More Podcast Praise Pouring In
The outpouring of support from my fellow low-carb and weight loss web site friends has been rewarding and I am truly grateful for their assistance in getting the word about the show as well. Additionally, I've gotten plenty of feedback from the listeners, too!
Before I get to some of that, it's time to announce the winner of the FREE BOX OF GOLOWER CHOCOLATE CREME BARS. The winner of this contest for correctly identifying the number of times I said "Australia" in Episode 2 as three is...
CATHY C. from ALABAMA!!!
CONGRATULATIONS, Cathy! Enjoy those GoLower Creme bars! You are one of the very first Americans who will have the chance to taste these amazing bars which will be coming to America very soon. ENJOY and THANK YOU for listening!
Here are MORE comments I received about my latest podcast:
It is a great show. The sound quality was much improved for Episode 2. I'm looking forward to future episodes.
*****************
I greatly appreciated the improved sound quality of this episode. The studies you presented were fascinating, and I especially like the way you make thing simple to understand. Do I detect a (slight) Southern accent? I’ve been loving your blog, which I discovered about 6 months ago. The podcast is also a great source of information and encouragement.
*****************
GREAT JOB on your second podcast--people really need to know what's going on with these studies and you're doing a great job of getting the word out.
*****************
Although I find your show informative, it is way too short. Just as I am getting "hooked" into listening to what you are saying, you are signing off. Thanks for putting your show out there. More people need to try low carbing.
*****************
I liked the new podcast. I am looking forward to future casts, maybe some with motivation tools for those of us “long timers."
*****************
Great job!!!!!!! Your show is so informative.
*****************
Loved your show today. I have lost 85 pounds low carbing. When people question the healthiness of this diet, I have so many rebuttals for them because of your blog and now your podcast. Keep up the good work!
*****************
Thanks for starting such a great service! I am an avid reader of your blog but to finally hear you regularly on your podcast really helps me to stay on the right track. The only thing that I can think you can do to improve your show is to: 1. Make it longer 2. Take a longer breath between sentences.
*****************
I just listened to your second podcast, and thought it was even better than the first one! You are in your element, and the enthusiasm comes across loud and clear. Thanks Jimmy for providing us low-carbers with plenty of great information and motivation!
*****************
Once again, I REALLY appreciate the feedback and WANT to hear from YOU! Be sure to check out the feedback left at iTunes as well. THANK YOU to everyone who has commented and feel free to keep sharing your remarks with us!
By the way, my podcast show won't be longer than 10-15 minutes because it would tend to get boring if it runs longer than that. Perhaps I will consider doing more than one show weekly, but I think the show should get a few more listeners before doing that. If the show hits a certain number of listeners, then I will probably add one or two extra podcasts each week. It will add more work on me, but worth every moment invested to bringing you the best low-carb information possible.
As for providing information for veterans of the low-carb lifestyle, honestly I probably can't tell those of you in this category ANYTHING about low-carb that you don't already know through your own personal experience. While I won't ignore issues that deal with being on low-carb long-term, most of the podcasts will be geared towards helping educate those who don't know as much about low-carb as you do. Don't let that discourage you, though. Consider it a refresher course! :D
Tune in on Monday for more of "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show" as well as another SUPER prize in a contest for listening to Episode 3 next week. You WON'T want to miss it! Please spread the word to your friends, family, and those curious about low-carb living. Until then, keep on livin' la vida low-carb!

Having A Blast With My Low-Carb Podcast
But podcasting is a little bit different from radio. There's not a LIVE audience you are broadcasting to when you are recording. Thus, there is no way to instantly interact with your listeners in an engaging way about the various topics you are talking about. I suppose you could call that a downside to podcasting, but I don't.
By the way, in case you've missed the first few shows, go check 'em out:
PROTOTYPE
EPISODE 1
EPISODE 2
The ace in the sleeve of this cutting edge new format is the fact that people can STILL interact in an even better way (IMHO!) by leaving comments about the show. You can do that very easily at the official "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore" blog, at the brand new MySpace.com page for the show, with the super-easy MobaTalk Comment System (located just beneath my picture on the show's web site--GIVE IT A TRY!), and at the iTunes store.
That last one, the iTunes store, is EXTREMELY important for several reasons. First, feedback left there shows other people there is a genuine interest in the show. Second, curious onlookers rely on feedback from fellow podcast listeners to convince them a new podcast is worth trying out for themselves. Of course, if you hated the show, you have a right to share that, too, but I haven't heard anyone say the show stinks...at least not to my face! :) Finally, it lets us know how we are doing and whether we need to make any improvements.
If you have access to iTunes, I would like to request you do one thing for me: leave SOME kind of feedback there and rate the show regardless of your opinions. I'm a big boy and can take it! If you hated it, then say why. If you loved it, don't be too shy to share. This may seem insignificant, but your feedback at iTunes could be all that's needed to move this show into the next level in a short amount of time.
I cannot begin to tell you how much this would help the show continue to ride the early wave of success it has already seen. My goal is for "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show" podcast to reach far beyond the walls of the low-carb community and well into the mainstream of public health circles. Those of us who have made this way of eating our preferred method for eating already know that livin' la vida low-carb is an extremely healthy lifestyle, but there's still so much work left to do convincing the vast majority of others this fact. I'll never stop trying!
Even if you don't have access to iTunes, we'd still LOVE to read your comments in any of the other formats I mentioned previously. Some of the early feedback I have been receiving about the show has been helpful: They love hearing my voice, it's exciting to have a new format to learn more about low-carb, I'm talking too fast, the information provided is educational, the show is too short and ends just when it's getting good, and so much more! THESE are the kind of comments we WANT to hear from you and we are grateful for the constructive criticism as well as the compliments.
You can learn how to subscribe to the RSS feed for the show by clicking here and we even have an e-mail alert system to let you know when new content has been added to "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show" web site. Enter your e-mail address in the box located in the upper right-hand section of the page and you will be notified when the site is updated!
Ever since the podcast aired for the first time a couple of weeks ago, the overwhelming support I have received from the low-carb and weight loss communities has been utterly amazing to see. There is not a more loving or caring group of people than those of us who are seeking to help the overweight and obese lose weight and get healthy. This was clearly illustrated by the myriad of mentions my new show has received since its debut.
The following is a rundown of the various comments that have been made about "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore":
LOW-CARB DAVE
"Will anything stop this man? Jimmy Moore's enthusiasm for low carb seems unstoppable! I've listened to his show and it's very inspirational. You get that personal passion from his voice, that you cannot get purely from his writing."
LIVIN' IN OHIO LOW-CARB
"Wow, what an uplifting experience to be able to hear Jimmy's voice coming to you through your computer. It's like having your own radio tuned into your favorite channel. Now you can have Jimmy speak to you right from his website."
OBESITY DISCUSSION
"For those who have had the pleasure of reading Jimmy's Livin' La Vida Low Carb blog, he's now going podcast! He's looking to be interactive with his listeners to better his show, so this could be a chance to work closely with a true success story and help him shape his future podcasts!"
THE LOW-CARB LIFESTYLE PODCAST
Fellow low-carb podcaster Diana Schnuth plugs my new show!
KENT ALTENA
"One of the things that impressed me about his first episode is how much of a natural he is in front of the mike. If anyone saw the rough cuts of my [how to do Atkins/low-carb] videos, they would know I am not necessarily the greatest ad libber in the world. Jimmy certainly does not have that problem in print with his prolific defense of the low carb lifestyle, and now it is apparent he does not have the problem orally either."
BECAUSE I SAID SO
"I don't mind saying that I will only endorse those that I believe have potential. He's GOLD I tell you. I listened to the first podcast and not only felt motivated, but laughed and enjoyed listening. Best of all, it was less than 10 minutes long from start to finish. Yeah folks, you can get a weekly dose of carb-controlled, nutrient-dense, advice from a man who actually read and followed the Atkin's plan."
KUDOS FOR LOW-CARB
"Jimmy has earned his solid reputation as a low carbohydrate lifestyle advocate, and he deserves the low carb community's support after everything he has done to promote a healthy low carb lifestyle. This new podcast is an apt and entertaining format for getting the word out about low-carb. Please join Jimmy in this exciting foray into the ever-challenging diet world. No doubt you’ll be entertained and learn something of value."
THE FREE RADICAL REPORT W/RICHARD MORRIS
"Jimmy proves, once again, that the power to change is in your hands. How you do it is up to you. Just do it. Drop in on Jimmy and check out his new show."
LOW-CARB CHRISTIANS FORUM
"Check it out--low-carb goes podcast!"
LOW-CARB SCOOP FORUM
Shayne Sherbert, who looks absolutely incredible following her triple-digit low-carb weight loss, gives a shout-out about my new pdocast.
