The LLVLC Show #97: Better Watch Out For The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet

Drs. Richard and Rachael Heller developed this strange low-carb plan

In Episode 97 of "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore," I decided to take a closer look at one of the more bizarre low-carb diets out there today--The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet by Drs. Richard and Rachael Heller. Although there have been a lot of people who swear by this odd nutritional plan, I have some serious doubts about how it can be healthy and effective for you over the long-term.

The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet certainly sounds like a dieter's dream: eating whatever you want in whatever quantities you want for ONE HOUR a day for supper. In other words, you basically get a "splurge" meal EVERY SINGLE DAY (rather than every 6-8 weeks on my "planned splurge" strategy)! This includes consuming unlimited amounts of sugary desserts, starchy foods, and even fast food if you want it. Throughout the day, you basically eat a no-carb diet with very small amounts of fat and protein leading up to your BIG MEAL at the end of the day.

YIKES! My biggest concern about this diet is you never stop eating the foods you are addicted to. When I started the Atkins diet in January 2004, there were certain foods that I used to love that I could no longer have on a daily basis. Macaroni & cheese, pizza, donuts, sugary sodas, sausage biscuits, Little Debbie snack cakes, McDonald's French fries, and so much more. POOF! Gone forever from my life and four years later I don't miss them one bit!

Four ways to listen on your computer, laptop, iPod, or phone by:

1. Listening at the official web site
2. Going to iTunes
3. Calling (818) 688-2763 to listen via Podlinez
4. Subscribing to the RSS feed

What's your impression of the Hellers and their controversial diet program? Do you think it could work for you? Why or why not? And if you have tried this plan and had great success with it, then let me hear from you with your story. Tell us all about it so we can understand how this alternative low-carb plan might have worked for you. I personally could never see myself eating that way ever again even if it was for only an hour a day. NO THANK YOU!

We're coming up on my 100th podcast episode next Thursday, so stay tuned to find out how YOU can win some really cool prizes on that special day. Also, I have an interview coming up next Monday with my mom talking about her gastric bypass surgery experience that you won't want to miss. And come back on Thursday for another fun and exciting episode of "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore"--the top-rated low-carb podcast show on the Internet today. THANKS so much for your support!

LLVLC On YouTube (Episode 10): Are You Supplementing Your Diet?

Regardless of your choice of diet, you need to be taking supplements

One of the most common questions I receive from people inquiring about my low-carb lifestyle is regarding vitamin supplements. They want to know specifically what I take and why I take them. I've briefly blogged about this before, but this was such an interesting topic that I decided to dedicate Episode 10 of "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb On YouTube" to go over the ones that Christine and I currently take.

Some people erroneously think that they can get all the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients they need by simply eating the right kinds of foods in their diet. Unfortunately, that is next to impossible to do which necessitates the need for supplementation. There are arguments both for and against taking vitamins, but I personally feel better and healthier over these past four years since I added DAILY supplementation to my lifestyle. Nobody will ever convince me otherwise.

See EXACTLY what I am taking in our latest YouTube video:

We'd love to have your feedback about Episode 10 at YouTube, including any supplements that you take that I did not mention. Plus, your comment will make you eligible to win another very special surprise prize that will be announced in our next episode. Click here to leave your comment and GOOD LUCK in the contest.

Special CONGRATULATIONS to one of my LowCarbDiscussion.com forum readers ChrisTina (aka Mrs. A), whose screen name at YouTube is xf89, for being the winner of our previous surprise giveaway contest from Episode 9. She won certificates for 10 FREE Atkins Nutritionals bars just for leaving a comment and for being fortunate enough to be chosen in our drawing. The LLVLC Show #96: Are There Really Areas Of Agreement Between Low-Carb Supporters And Dean Ornish?

The second half of my interview with Dr. Dean Ornish

Following Part 1 of my exclusive interview with low-fat diet guru Dr. Dean Ornish, I'm pleased to bring you Part 2 today in Episode 96 of "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore." Again, the quality of the interview is a bit fuzzy, but when it was recorded one year ago I did not have the nice recording equipment I have today. In fact, I didn't even have a podcast show yet at the time. But I thought it was interesting to hear the specific answers to my questions from Dr. Ornish in his own voice.

Click on the "LISTEN NOW" link below or download it to your iPod:

icon for podpress  "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore" Episode 96 [28:02m]: LISTEN NOW | Download

Today we conclude the second half of my interview with Dr. Dean Ornish, which originally appeared as a 4-part transcript last year and you can see the relevant parts of today's podcast for yourself here and here. Dr. Ornish comments on artificial sweeteners, McDonald's, the latest low-carb studies, and more! At the end of our interview, I identified a surprising list of 20 areas of agreement where low-carbers can agree with Dr. Ornish. This is worthy of continuing the conversation with low-fat supporters to see if we can find more areas of consensus for the sake of helping people who want to lose weight and get healthy.

If you want your low-carb, then you get your low-carb by:

1. Listening at the official web site
2. Going to iTunes
3. Calling (818) 688-2763 to listen via Podlinez
4. Subscribing to the RSS feed

Now that you have heard from Dr. Dean Ornish talking about why he believes what he believes, what do you think about what he had to say? Is it a worthwhile pursuit to "look for common ground" as Dr. Ornish suggested at the end of the interview or should we hold fast in our belief in livin' la vida low-carb? Don't hold back on what you think and let us all know what you think.

I am happy to interview Dr. Ornish again in the future to ask some more specific questions about what he believes regarding a myriad of ideas, including much of what Gary Taubes discussed in his bestselling new book Good Calories, Bad Calories. In fact, I've invited him to share his comments about the Taubes book, but he has not provided them to date. Nevertheless, I was privileged to have had the opportunity to interview him for my blog and now my podcast show.

The LLVLC Show #95: Low-Fat's Dean Ornish Interviewed By Low-Carb's Jimmy Moore

For the first time ever, audio from my interview with Dean Ornish

It was about one year ago that I was given the opportunity to interview someone who many in the low-carb community consider public enemy #1: Dr. Dean Ornish. Over the years, Dr. Ornish has made a career out of being the king of the low-fat diet and has become quite an established guru among his peers. He is arguably the most famous low-fat diet proponent in the world today and it was truly an honor to have had the opportunity to interview him despite our obvious differences.

In Episode 95 of "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore," you will get to hear for the very first time ever the first part this exclusive interview I conducted with Dr. Ornish with all of his answers to the questions I had for him. If you're expecting a debate between him and I, then I'm sorry to disappoint you. The purpose of this interview was to simply listen to what the man had to say to see what he believes--straight from the horse's mouth!

Click on the "LISTEN NOW" link below or download it to your iPod (I apologize for the poor audio quality of this recording--this was before I had my own podcast show and I was using primitive digital equipment that sounded like we were talking into cardboard boxes. Do your best to listen and read the transcripts linked below to follow along):

icon for podpress  "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore" Episode 95 [27:21m]: LISTEN NOW | Download

Many of my longtime readers will recall seeing the 4-part transcript of my interview with Dr. Ornish last year and you can see the relevant parts of today's podcast for yourself here and here. I think what was most shocking about his comments in this podcast had to be his assertion that he doesn't really advocate a low-fat diet except for those who are trying to reverse heart disease (which I still find VERY hard to believe since that's his biggest claim to fame) and that he believes HDL "good" cholesterol is like "garbage trucks" for the body (getting rid of the fat which he thinks is the "garbage" in your body--something the always-lucid Dr. Mike Eades more than adequately responded to). I really had to bite my tongue throughout this interview with Dr. Ornish.

Listen early and listen often to low-carb podcasting by:

1. Listening at the official web site
2. Going to iTunes
3. Calling (818) 688-2763 to listen via Podlinez
4. Subscribing to the RSS feed

What did you think about what Dr. Ornish had to share in this portion of my interview with him? Did he say anything that you would agree with or do you think he was simply on his talking points the entire time? Talk about what you think and respond to anything you disagreed with. I can't imagine that anyone reading this would challenge a single word Dr. Ornish said...LOL!

Come back on Thursday for part two of my interview with Dr. Dean Ornish heard exclusively on "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore." THANK YOU for listening and for helping to spread the positive message of the healthy low-carb lifestyle with everyone you know.

LLVLC On YouTube (Episode 9): It Ain't Atkins Unless You've Read The Book!

If you're gonna do the "Atkins diet," then you MUST read THIS book!

Christine and I are BACK from our quick little trip to Pigeon Forge in the Smoky Mountains for a bit of rest and relaxation and we're excited to bring you yet another new video in our fun and exciting new "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb On YouTube" series. The comments have been coming in with these videos and everyone is raving about how much they enjoy these sometimes quirky, but informative episodes about the healthy low-carb lifestyle. We cannot tell you how much fun we have making these videos (even better than blogging...er, almost!).

I wanted to share a very nice e-mail I received from one of our YouTube video fans who won a copy of my book just for leaving a comment a couple of episodes back. His name is Dan (aka SlimQuest) and he was extremely grateful for the blessing low-carb has been in his life. Check this out:

Hello Jimmy and Christine,

Hope all is well...

I wanted to thank you for the book you sent me last week... I just finished it... besides the Atkins Book, your book was great... the Atkins book is good for details about the actual diet however your book really hit home for me... we have had a lot of similar experiences, you and I ... your book was very inspiring and I found it hard to put down... I have been on the Atkins Diet for 21 days and have lost a total of 15 pounds so far...

I actually have done this once before and lost about 140 lbs... doing what I thought was the Atkins diet... I gained all but about 45 lbs pounds back and ended back to 430 lbs... I did not have the support, no blogs, no books, no feed back from others that have succeeded and kept the weight off... It was a disaster the first time around.

I do not know why it took me so long to get back to this point where I had success before... but I tried the South Beach Diet, the Nuti-System Diet, Counting Calorie Diet and failed again and again over about a year period... I guess I am just hard headed that way... but I finally came back to reality and bought the Atkins Book and CD read it and listened to the CD and started 21 days ago...

Induction was really hard for me but again I am hard headed and did not do it exactly as written and paid the price with alot of unpleasant side effects... I actually got so sick and I quit... and went out and bought a extra large pizza to eat for 3 days while I contimplated my next move, I then went back to the drawing board and read the book again and started over...

Anyway I finally got through Induction, I am feeling great, well into fat burning mode and I am loving this diet... the pounds are burning off again and I am down to 410.8 lbs down from 430 lbs... and actually at my heaviest I weighed in at 475 lbs when I lost the first 140 lbs about 3 years ago... Anyway I am back... Yippy... :)

I really appreciate your help Jimmy, I am not sure if you realize what a great help you are with all of your work... I think what you do and what you have done on your blog, YouTube and your book is wonderful and really a God send...

My Dad past away from complications of Diabetes at age 65 and I saw him suffer for over 10 years from amputations, heart attacks, strokes, blindness and at the end he passed away in front of me in the hospital... It was terrible experience to see someone you love go through such pain... his brother, my uncle passed about a year before him from the same disease. I made a promise to my Dad... that I would lose the weight and become healthy and he made me promise that I would not make the same mistakes he did...

I had lost about 100 lbs of the 140 lbs before he passed away... he was very proud of me, back then... however, after that due to many different stresses I allowed myself to gain back 100 lbs back up to 430 lbs... I felt ashamed of myself and I felt like I let him down... I want to make him proud again and I want to make myself proud... :)

So, here I am, the next Atkins Success story in the making... My goal is to weigh in at 225 lbs on February 14, 2009 Valentines Day... that is when my fiance and I are getting married... thanks to your help and support with all the great advise and the support of my fiance Amy I will do this and be the healthy man I am supposed to be... I am glad I have your support and invaluable knowledge to help me this time around... I really feel this time is going to be for good...

My fiance is a wonderful woman and happens to be a Gastroenterologist and she is going to be starting Atkins in a few weeks... she supports me in everything I do and has backed me every step of the way... Unfortunately, She just went through surgery to remove a large Endometreoma cyst from her right ovary... they found that it had enveloped the tube and the entire ovary and she had to have them removed... she is in a lot of pain in her tummy and in her heart as she is very sad and worried about the future, babies and such... She is taking a few weeks off from work and is here with me as I help her back to health...

Needless to say it has been very stressful... but the amazing thing is that I have actually lost this 15 pounds during this whole stressful event... normally I would have put on an extra 15 lbs by now due to my past stress eating... It was amazing that I was able to do this during this time of grief and stress... that is when I realized that this time was going to be different... and thanks to your book and support of others, I feel more confident than ever... Thank you very much for everything... Please keep blogging, YouTubing and writing books...

Thank you for making such a big impact on my life Jimmy and tell Christine thank you as well... my fiance loves watching her as well and hearing from her... thanks again...

God Bless You...

To your success...

Dan

WOW, Dan! We DO have a lot in common...have weighed 400 pounds, the woman of our life had to have endometriosis surgery, concerned about having children, and BEST OF ALL--did the ATKINS diet! You keep at it, my friend, and you'll have no choice but to succeed. I can't wait to see it happen!

Speaking of doing the Atkins diet, that's the subject matter of Episode 9 of "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb On YouTube" because this is way too important for people to miss. Unfortunately, a lot of people in our society have made the "Atkins diet" synonymous with just eating meat, eggs, and cheese all day. But for those of us who have actually READ THE BOOK, you KNOW that's not what the genuine Atkins diet is all about.

While you may do just fine eating that way, many people get frustrated at some point when they realize that something is missing about their diet. Uh, ya think? That's where reading Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution at the cool discount price of a penny plus shipping at Amazon.com becomes invaluable as you sincerely learn what the Atkins diet is about.

Watch our latest video now for an analogy about why reading the instruction manual is so important when you are livin' la vida low-carb:

There's only one Atkins diet (well, actually, there are TWO if you count the ORIGINAL 1970s Atkins diet and then the updated one from the 1990s), so doing anything else just isn't Atkins. Call it what you want, but, as we say in the South, it AIN'T Atkins! Read the book, absorb its message, and then do it EXACTLY as the late great Dr. Robert C. Atkins shared in his masterpiece. You can't go wrong if you do that!

Please post your comments about Episode 9 at YouTube about today's video and you could have a chance to win a special surprise prize that will be announced in our next episode. Click here and you'll be taken to the YouTube page where you can leave a comment about this show.

Did you miss any of our other YouTube videos? Never fear, they're all right here:

- Episode 4--What does a low-carber do for something sweet?
- Episode 5--Why is fat so healthy for you on the low-carb lifestyle?
- Episode 6--Which restaurants can you go to on the low-carb lifestyle?
- Episode 7--What are the best new low-carb books you need to read?

We now have well over 100 subscribers to our YouTube videos and I want to thank you for continuing to tell your friends, family, and anyone else who needs a boost of education, encouragement and inspiration in their low-carb lifestyle to check us out. Sure, we're a bit silly at times and like to make you laugh with our videos. But the work we are doing is DEAD SERIOUS as the lives of real people are being positively changed because of it.

THANK YOU as always for watching our videos and please send us your feedback, suggestions for future show ideas, comments, and questions at livinlowcarbman@charter.net. We've got some REALLY good ideas for upcoming videos, so don't miss a single video. CLICK HERE to subscribe NOW! :)

Help Make Dr. Mary C. Vernon 'Diabetes Educator Of The Year'

Dr. Mary C. Vernon is worthy of the title "Diabetes Educator Of 2007"

Of all the health issues we currently face in the world today, there is one that rises to the top of the list to rival even obesity as an out-of-control epidemic. That would be the mostly preventable but now all-too-common occurrence of Type 2 diabetes. It is estimated that there are currently 73 million Americans who are either diabetic or pre-diabetic with healthcare costs associated with this disease adding up to $132 BILLION in 2002 alone.

The prognosis is grim, but the good news is there are people who are standing up to be counted and they're not giving up without a fight. While organizations like the American Diabetes Association (ADA) are giving diabetics a free license to consume foods that will knowingly impact their blood sugar levels negatively as long as they obediently "take their medicine," it's good to know there are REAL leaders who understand the need for some sanity in a world that's looking more and more insane each and every day.

One such leader in the diabetic world exists--DR. MARY C. VERNON.

Dr. Vernon is an unsung hero in my book. She is a board certified bariatric physician with a private practice located in Lawrence, Kansas. In 2004, she collaborated with Jacqueline Eberstein on the bestselling Atkins Diabetes Revolution book from Harper-Collins. Her current leadership position as the President of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP) has earned her the respect and admiration of her peers, including a nod as Bariatric Physician of the Year in 2005.

Her research into diabetes has been published and appeared in some of the most prestigious medical journals in the world, including the American Journal of Medicine as well as Metabolic Syndrome and Related Disorders. Her zeal and enthusiasm for livin' la vida low-carb as a means for weight and health management make her a true pioneer for alternative methods for treating patients.

I have been truly honored to have had the opportunity to interview and meet Dr. Vernon not just once, but twice--first at my blog and most recently on my podcast show. Her "Ask Dr. Vernon" blog provides unprecedented public access to one of the nation's most foremost diabetes experts as she answers reader-submitted questions about a controlled-carbohydrate nutritional approach for managing diabetes.

Dr. Vernon has appeared on television supporting low-carb as a treatment option for diabetes and was instrumental is the release of some especially eye-opening research out of Duke University that showed the Atkins low-carb diet can lower A1C numbers and stabilize blood sugars sometimes without the use of drugs or insulin in Type 2 diabetics. And in November 2006, Dr. Vernon was propelled into the national spotlight when she was featured in an article about diabetes control in Men's Health magazine.

In other words, Dr. Vernon is the real deal. She doesn't just talk a good game (although she is quite articulate about how low-carb living can help improve obesity and diabetes), but she sees results in the thousands of patients who come through her Kansas clinic. If anyone deserves recognition and the honorable distinction of "Diabetes Educator Of The Year," then I can think of no one better suited for that title than Dr. Mary C. Vernon.

That's why I hereby nominate her for that prestigious distinction among her peers and I want to encourage the faithful readers of the "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" blog to join me in voting for Dr. Vernon for this honor. The winner will be featured in an upcoming feature story for Diabetes Health magazine which is read by many of the ADA-indoctrinated. Let's show them there is a better way by highlighting the success that Dr. Vernon is having with low-carb.

To submit your nomination for Dr. Mary C. Vernon, go to the "Diabetes Educator Of The Year" nomination form and fill out the form. Keep in mind you only need to fill in the blanks with a yellow star next to them, so don't worry about filling in any of the other blanks. Feel free to share up to 250 words in the box provided explaining your nomination. But just share from your heart why she deserves this distinction.

Wanna see what Jimmy Moore wrote about Dr. Vernon? :)

In the sometimes contentious field of diabetes care, there is one person who has risen to the top of giving diabetics an extremely effective alternative from the usual methods for treating this terrible disease. Her name is Dr. Mary C. Vernon from Lawrence, Kansas.

Although the typical advice recommended by the ADA and most diabetes health providers is a high-carb, low-fat diet, Dr. Vernon is among a minority of voices who believes this advice is absolutely absurd. And she knows firsthand the positive impact that a controlled-carbohydrate nutritional approach is having on the A1C levels of her patients.

Many of those patients are able to either greatly reduce or eliminate their need for blood sugar-controlling medications and even insulin for Type 2 sufferers. This is indeed a miracle for many diabetics who have tried to find a natural way to control their disease. The low-carb lifestyle is changing people's lives for the better!

Dr. Vernon was featured in a major "Men's Health" magazine column in November 2006 for the work she is doing on behalf of diabetics and is a worthy nominee for Diabetes Educator Of The Year.

Short, sweet, and to the point--that's all you need to do. It's so super easy and I finished my nomination for Dr. Vernon in only three minutes. Please take just a moment RIGHT NOW to do this because it WILL make a real difference for the cause of livin' la vida low-carb in the realm of diabetes care to have someone like Dr. Mary C. Vernon recognized for the tireless work she has invested into spreading the positive message with her patients.

Be sure to cut and paste your nomination text in the comments section of this post so we can see the impact we are making on this nomination. With literally thousands of visitors each and every day, we can stand together in unity behind Dr. Vernon and give her the big push into the spotlight she deserves to be a beacon of truth for diabetes sufferers the world over.

THANK YOU in advance for helping with this effort and I'll let you know if she ends up winning this award or not (cross your fingers). You have until November 30, 2007 to submit your entry, but don't delay. Let's flood them with praise and admiration for Dr. Vernon so they will have no other choice but to give her the title of "Diabetes Educator Of The Year." Wouldn't that be AWESOME? It could happen with YOUR help. So do your part TODAY and don't forget to share your entry with everyone in the comments section.

LLVLC On YouTube (Episode 8): You Can Never Eat Too Many Eggs

You'll be singing the praises of eggs after watching this YouTube video

Have you been following the new "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb On YouTube" series that my wife Christine and I have been recording over the past couple of months? We've had more fun doing these videos because we can let it all hang out and just be us for a change. Although I do that somewhat here at my blog and on my podcast show, there's something about being in front of a camera with the love of my life where real magic moments can happen. THANK YOU to everyone who has so faithfully supported this new venture!

In our previous video--Episode 7--we offered a chance to win a FREE AUTOGRAPHED COPY of my book Livin' La Vida Low-Carb: My Journey From Flabby Fat To Sensationally Skinny In One Year and the winner of that drawing was SlimQuest (aka Dan). CONGRATULATIONS Dan and your book is on the way to you now. :D We'll be having MANY MORE opportunities to win prizes in future videos, so KEEP WATCHING!

The educational fun continues in Episode 8 today where we discuss the incredible edible egg. As you know, eggs have been found in studies to reduce total calorie intake compared with a bagel for breakfast! YEPPERS, it's true! Nutrient-dense, chock full of healthy protein, lutein, omega-3s, and more vitamins and minerals than you could shake a stick at. And I'm talking about eating THE WHOLE EGG! GASP! But, but, but...

Before you fret, watch the video for yourself to learn more about eggs:

Yes, I know people fear the cholesterol in eggs and that's just plain silly. Eating cholesterol does NOT raise your cholesterol. But consuming tons and tons of carbs as well as stress leads the body to create unhealthy levels of cholesterol naturally through the liver that enter the bloodstream and cause the problems that lead to higher risks for heart disease and stroke. You won't hear this message very often from the so-called health "experts," but it is the truth.

We'd love to have your thoughts about Episode 8 at YouTube, so share your experiences about eating eggs for your health in the comments section of this video at YouTube. Click here to share your feedback and help educate others about why eggs are the cheapest health food you can eat!

The LLVLC Show #94: The Pathological Lies Told By Kimkins Founder Heidi Diaz

The Kimkins saga is a hard lesson in how to avoid diet scams

When I agreed to interview "Kimmer," the founder of the fraudulent diet scam known as Kimkins, back in July, I had no idea what a pathological liar she was. From claiming she was that skinny woman in the red dress (when actually that is a picture of a Russian model) to promoting her diet as just another "low-carb" plan, this was not an innocent little oversight by a woman who claims to be "just a mom." Instead, it was a deliberate attempt to fool literally thousands of people into thinking Kimkins was the answer--myself included (for which I have apologized).

In Episode 94 of "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore," I went back to that interview I conducted with Kimmer, whose real name is Heidi Kimberly Diaz, and pulled out some essential and rather eye-opening comments she made about herself and her diet that have since been proven false in the less than three months that have elapsed since. Heidi does NOT want you to hear about this, but the truth needs to be shared for the sake of those who are still involved with this multi-million dollar scheme.

You can hear the original interview I conducted with her in its entirety by listening to Part 1, Part 2, and Parts 3-5. When I was speaking to Heidi/Kimmer during this interview, it was becoming more and more obvious this woman was in serious need of psychological help because you could tell she was buying into her own propaganda and making it up as she was going along. And when you stop and think about the fact that she was so easily answering my questions about her alleged triple-digit weight loss when in fact she is a 300+ pound woman, it is sickening beyond the words I need to describe it.

Can you understand why anyone would still choose to associate themselves with Kimkins after learning that Heidi has lied so much to keep up the facade? Do you agree with me that whether the diet has helped people lose weight or not (although the health damage it has caused some former and current members is still a major concern), the fact that it was created by a woman who will say anything you want to hear just to make money warrants immediate action to shut it down for good? Express yourself and let's talk about what many are saying is the beginning of the end for the Kimkins diet.

Be sure to check out the full list of accompanying links to this podcast show for more information about the specifics shared in today's podcast. Anyone who wants to get out of Kimkins and find support for their low-carb lifestyle is still invited to make a home at my new low-carb forum at LowCarbDiscussion.com. The LLVLC Show #93: Have You Met 'Sat' and 'Trans' Yet?

The creation of the "Bad Fat Brothers" shows the AHA hitting a new low

The low-fat apologists have never been shy or coy about espousing their beliefs about healthy nutrition on the public. They speak boldly and proudly about the alleged "dangers" of consuming fat, especially saturated fat and trans fat. But now the American Heart Association (AHA) has gone too far with their latest propaganda campaign centered around two cartoon characters named "Sat" and "Trans"--aka the "Bad Fat Brothers."

In Episode 93 of "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore," we shine a light on this new public awareness campaign endorsed and paid for by the AHA that is trying to bamboozle people into thinking consuming saturated fat and trans fat is unhealthy. I could not disagree more and explain why citing evidence to the contrary in this podcast.

Have you heard "Sat" and "Trans" on the radio talking about all the foods they like people to consume so they can "break your heart?" Those spots are already running nationwide with this web site advertised at the end of the radio ad. And there's even a video on YouTube with these two goofball characters spreading their lies about fat consumption. Watch it for yourself and try not to gag too much:

Do you agree with me that this latest campaign from the AHA is a bit of desperation on their part to try to malign saturated fat at a time when the evidence out of the scientific community is actually praising it? How effective do you think the "Bad Fat Brothers" will be at convincing people to stop eating the foods that contain saturated and trans fat in them? You know you have an opinion, so share it so we can all talk about it together!

The LLVLC Show #92: Mental Health & Kimkins Founder Heidi Diaz...PERFECT!

In Episode 92 of "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore," we feature two guests, one special and another not-so-much, to bring to you today: 1) The beautiful and lovely Christine (that's my wife, by the way!) as we talk about dealing with mental health issues while livin' la vida low-carb, and 2) The deceptive and manipulative fraud known as Kimmer/Heidi Diaz from the Kimkins diet who tries to wiggle out of owning up to who she really is by pretending she didn't know me when I made an exclusive telephone call to her on Wednesday afternoon.

Click on the "LISTEN NOW" link below or download it to your iPod:

I received the following e-mail from one of my readers recently requesting that I do a show on a topic of personal interest to him and his family:

Hello Jimmy,

I am really enjoying your blog, the new forum and the new YouTube videos. I wanted to ask if you had considered doing a show about the importance of livin' la vida low-carb to fight mental health issues like OCD, anxiety, and depression.

My wife suffers from all of the above. She has not had them all of her life, but they just started a year ago with a very serious case of all of the above at once. Just recently her new doctor recommended she cut grains out of her diet.

I researched a little further and discovered that grains are only half of the problem. It would appear that SUGAR is the big issue here. My wife has a HUGE sweet tooth. I am encouraging her to cut out the sugars. She is doing great on cutting out the grains.

If you have any more info please share! I would love to hear what you find out.

What an excellent idea for a podcast show and I was happy to oblige. It's interesting she has no trouble dropping grains, but sugar is the problem. For most people it's the opposite because they realize how bad sugar is for them, but can't get over why whole grains are unhealthy (because those carbs turn into sugar inside the body). Thank goodness there are some phenomenal sugar-free, low-carb sweets and sugar alternatives that can help with the transition.

I've blogged briefly before about the mistaken notion that low-carb makes you an angry and moody fool, but it's just not true based on my own experience. But with my wife Christine, she HAS gone through the exact same issues the wife of this reader did, so who better to ask about this than her? :) It was nice to have her back on my podcast show again for the first time since her first appearance a few months back.

You'll recall Christine started on a low-carb diet in May 2007 to help reduce her triglycerides down from the 250 that her doctor recorded (you can hear her talk about it in Episode 1 of our new "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb On YouTube" video series). I told her at the time that livin' la vida low-carb would get them below 100 and that's exactly what has happened. But she's also benefited from a nearly 40-pound weight loss AND enjoyed some rather excellent improvements in her mental issues which she discusses in today's podcast. WOO HOO!

Get low-carb podcasting on your computer, laptop, iPod, or phone by:

1. Listening at the official web site
2. Going to iTunes
3. Calling (818) 688-2763 to listen via Podlinez
4. Subscribing to the RSS feed

Do you or someone you love deal with OCD, depression, anxiety attacks, and other mental issues? Have you tried the low-carb lifestyle to deal with these issues and what has been the result? Let's discuss this important issue more and see what the low-carb connection to mental health issues really is (I'm sure neurologist Dr. Larry McCleary would agree livin' la vida low-carb is an excellent answer to these issues)!

Also in Episode 92 of "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore" is that exclusive audio of my brief telephone conversation with Kimmer/Heidi Diaz on Wednesday afternoon regarding some questions I had for her about the Los Angeles, CA-based KTLA-TV investigative report that showed her to be a morbidly obese woman who has used the Kimkins diet to bilk tens of thousands of people out of their money while simultaneously putting their health in danger.

I posted the transcript of that call at my blog on Wednesday and now you can hear the audio with that very distinctive voice of the infamous founder of the Kimkins diet for yourself. It's UNBELIEVABLE how she tried to deny knowing who I was and that she was the same person I had interviewed for my podcast show just two months prior!

As always, THANKS for listening and feel free to e-mail me anytime at livinlowcarbman@charter.net with any comments, questions, or ideas for a future podcast show. Take care! :)

Kimkins, Kimmer, KTLA, And One Crazy Phone Call!

A full TV investigation of Kimkins conducted by KTLA in Los Angeles

A year and a half after a woman using the name "Kimmer" from the ultra-low-fat/low-calorie Kimkins diet started her own web site after allegedly losing 198 pounds in 11 months has now been outed by a major local television station who began an explosive new investigative series about her and her scam on Tuesday.

Kimmer, whose real name is Heidi Diaz, was featured on KTLA-TV in Los Angeles, California on Tuesday night (October 2, 2007) in an exclusive video segment (read a full transcript here) on the controversial diet plan that has been documented to be causing some major health problems for those who were among its most ardent followers. KTLA promises to follow up on the health issues suffered by people like Woman's World cover girl Christin in a follow-up story as well as reporting on the forthcoming class action lawsuit against Diaz by angry ex-members who have been refused a refund of their "lifetime membership" fee. If you have not seen these reports, then GO WATCH THE VIDEO NOW!

As many of you know, I have expressed my concerns about the Kimkins diet over the past couple of months since my public apology for once supporting it. My intentions were good for formerly backing Kimkins because I merely wanted to help people get motivated about losing weight (I have since created my own forum for former Kimkins members and anyone else to build an enjoyable low-carb community together). But there were too many unanswered questions, especially surrounding Kimmer herself that just didn't add up about the integrity of this woman behind Kimkins after I interviewed her for my podcast show a couple of months ago.

In the two months since breaking ties with Kimkins, I have become more and more disturbed by what I have seen from Kimmer/Heidi Diaz because she has demonstrated increasing levels of desperation to keep up with the charade that all is well and that she is who she says she is. But all is NOT well in Kimkinsland and she has resorted to coming up with lie after lie to continue with the facade that her diet scam is still legitimate when clearly it is not.

The whopper lie of them all was the triple-digit weight loss success that Kimmer/Heidi Diaz allegedly experienced on her diet. But a private investigator took video surveillance of Kimmer in August and as you will see in the video below, she very clearly had NOT lost the weight as she claimed (read this full report from the investigator who captured still shots and video of her in August). In fact, Kimmer/Heidi Diaz is indeed a morbidly obese woman as you will see in the following YouTube video courtesy of our friends at Slamboard who paid for the PI who got the footage:

There's an investigation petition and complaints being filed with the Better Business Bureau (who recently downgraded her diet's rating to a "D" and didn't look happy with Kimmer/Heidi's excuses for not meeting with them in the KTLA story!). This story shows no sign of letting up and it is merely one step away from becoming the national news scandal it deserves to be. Too many good and honest people are getting hurt on the starvation diet scheme and it's high time Kimkins is shut down for good.

ANYONE STILL SUPPORTING THIS SCAM SHOULD GET OUT IMMEDIATELY!

As I was going through my old e-mails the other day, I came across the e-mail response I received from Kimmer/Heidi Diaz to my original written blog interview with her published in October 2006 (which I have since removed because I didn't want to be perceived as endorsing her diet). Wanna see what this woman who claims she is not Heidi Diaz wrote to me in her e-mail with her interview responses? Check this out (the BOLD type is MY emphasis):

Date: Monday, October 2, 2006 3:01 AM
From: Heidi Diaz < heidi.k.diaz@gmail.com >

Subject: Kimmer Interview

Hello Jimmy!

You've got the patience of a saint, thanks for being understanding. I've attached my Interview for your review. I prefer to use smaller paragraphs for readability, but please feel free to edit as desired for your needs.

Now you know my secret identity! Shhhhhhh! ;)

Kimmer

YEP, you read that right! Kimmer told me she's REALLY Heidi Diaz (and if you look at her e-mail address, it's Heidi K. Diaz...could that be Heidi KIMBERLY Diaz, hmmm?). What's funny is right before I interviewed her for my podcast show a couple of months back, I asked her if Heidi Diaz was indeed her real name and she told me that was her cousin's name. HUH? That was just really strange since she clearly admitted in that e-mail to me one year ago that Heidi Diaz was her "secret identity." She either lied then or she's lying now.

Now, about that podcast interview I did with her back in July. You can listen to Part 1, Part 2, and Parts 3-5 to hear her voice for yourself. It's the same voice on the KTLA report saying, "I have no comment." EXACT SAME VOICE! If anyone doubted those most recent photos of her were real (not the infamous red dress lady who turns out to be a Russian model) then this news story should settle it once and for all. Listen to my podcasts with her and then watch the KTLA video again to hear her speak and it's undeniably her.

But my curiosity was piqued even further on Wednesday afternoon when I decided to give Kimmer/Heidi Diaz a call for myself. It's the same number she gave me to call her for the podcast interview we did, so I KNOW it was her number beyond any shadow of a doubt. I wanted to ask her why she is still claiming she lost nearly 200 pounds when the private investigator unveiled an entirely different story altogether. I also wanted to settle the question about her name being Heidi Diaz or not.

The resulting "conversation" I had with Heidi was one of the strangest exchanges I have ever participated in. It was so beyond surreal, I can hardly describe it for you. You're just not gonna believe this really happened, but it is 100% true.

Here's the transcript of that call:

Jimmy Moore: "Okay, I am calling Kimmer, otherwise known as Heidi Diaz, right now. We're gonna see if we can get her on the phone and address some of these issues that were brought up (phone ringing) in that TV...broadcast." (phone ringing)

Heidi Diaz: "Hello?"

Jimmy Moore: "Hey Heidi?"

Heidi Diaz: "Hello?"

Jimmy Moore: "Hey Heidi? Hello..."

Heidi Diaz: "I can take a message for her."

Jimmy Moore: "It's Jimmy Moore, how are you?"

Heidi Diaz: "Jimmy Moore, okay...and, does she have your number?"

Jimmy Moore: "You don't know who Jimmy Moore is?" (pause) "Hello?"

Heidi Diaz: "Hello? I'm sor...we're watching kids right now."

Jimmy Moore: "Oh you're fine."

Heidi Diaz: "Can I take a...can I take a phone number for you?"

Jimmy Moore: "Um, no, I want to talk to you." (pause)

Heidi Diaz: "I'm sorry?"

Jimmy Moore: "I said I'm talking to you." (long pause) "Hello?"

Heidi Diaz: "I..." (long pause)

Jimmy Moore: "Y-you're Heidi, right?"

Heidi Diaz: (murmuring away from the phone) "Do you guys know a Jimmy somebody?" (speaking into the phone) "I'm telling you she is out, can I take a number and I'll have her call you back."

Jimmy Moore: "Okay..."

Heidi Diaz: "Kedsul (???), over there."

Jimmy Moore: "I talked to you about a month and a half ago on my podcast show." (long pause) "Hello?"

Heidi Diaz: "Um...I think you have the wrong number."

Jimmy Moore: "Uh, no, Heidi, I don't have the wrong number, I'm just asking you a question." (CLICK) "Hello?" (long pause) "I do believe she hung up. I think that answers our questions, how about you?"

OH...MY...GOSH!!! She didn't just play dumb with me, did she? Did Heidi Diaz think I wouldn't recognize her voice after conducting a nearly 90-minute interview with her just two months back? Either she's the worst scam artist in the history of mankind or she's absolutely pea-brained!

When she played dumb and asked me for my telephone number, that's when I knew the gig was up for her. She even acted like she was watching kids (who is this "we" watching the kids anyway, hmmm?) and talking to them asking who Jimmy Moore is. What was REALLY funny is she said Heidi was out and that she'd take a message, but then at the end she changed her story and said that I must have the wrong number. So which lie is it, Heidi?

You know, I COULDN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP IF I TRIED!

Would you like to hear the audio of my phone call to Kimmer/Heidi Diaz? If you think the transcript of our conversation is great, then just wait until you hear THAT VOICE and see for yourself if it isn't the same person who was on my podcast interview and on KTLA. The audio of my call will appear in Episode 92 of "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore" on Thursday, so be sure to tune in to hear it for yourself!

The LLVLC Show #91: What Would A World Where Carbs Are Bad And Fat Is Good Look Like?

In Episode 91 of "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore," I take a look at what our world would be like if carbohydrate restriction was the recommended nutritional advice instead of cutting out the fat. It's amazing how making one little change in the dietary language can make a world of difference in the weight and health of millions.

Click on the "LISTEN NOW" link below or download it to your iPod:

What would it be like if suddenly we had all these great proclamations about the dangers of consuming sugar/carbs and that restaurants, food manufacturers, and health officials all began working in harmony to significantly reduce or eliminate these from the foods we eat. Wouldn't that be awesome?! Well, that's what they're doing with fat nowadays--an ESSENTIAL macronutrient that our bodies need whereas carbs are not needed at all (because of gluconeogenesis).

Low-carb anytime, anywhere, and any way that you like it by:

1. Listening at the official web site
2. Going to iTunes
3. Calling (818) 688-2763 to listen via Podlinez
4. Subscribing to the RSS feed

Would we be better off if low-carb was embraced by health leaders and our culture as a whole? How are we ever gonna get past this fat phobia that has so gripped us for decades? Is it even possible? Share your feedback about these questions and let's talk about it!

Come back on Thursday as my wife Christine comes back into the podcast studio with me for a very important interview about the issue of depression. Many of my readers here and at my new forum have talked about obsessive compulsive disorders such as anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues and whether that hinders your ability to be livin' la vida low-carb. Christine suffers from these conditions and will talk candidly about it in my interview with her on Thursday.

THANKS for listening to "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore."
